GlaxoSmithKline Pharmaceutical to Pay Large Sum for Fraud, Menu to Follow

GlaxoSmithKline is a large Pharmaceutical Corporation that likes to be known as a “healthcare” company. It has laboratories that test for safety and it has the ability to boost profits for both the drugs they create as well as the vaccines that pediatricians administer. Recently GSK plead guilty and agreed to pay for the admission of errors. The total is around 3 BILLION Dollars.

Paxil and Wellbutrin was found according to GSK, to be helpful in the reduction of depression but 2 studies showed that it did not have efficacy in pediatric use while one of their studies claimed that it was helpful. Omitted were the adverse effects regarding suicide. The company lured doctors into using the drugs in an “Off-label” manner to children under age 18 although the FDA did not approve it for this population. GSK prepared, published and distributed misleading journal articles. Vacations, spas, and financial incentives were awarded to doctors who prescribed large amounts of the products.

Avandia is a diabetes drug that had a variety of troubling consequences and cardiovascular safety seemed not important. Dire side effects were not initially reported. They included Congestive Heart Failure and Myocardial Infarctions which lead to heart attacks.

Separate, but of equal importance, GSK has been recently fined for the death of 14 babies in their clinical trials for new vaccines. GSK used poor populations to circumvent responsibility. The death of 1 or 2 babies in a vaccine experiment is a tragedy, but the death of 14 babies in my opinion rises to a criminal level .

Wellbutrin and Paxil: Unapproved uses, misbranding and inadequate directions for Off-Label Use. Used to help reduce depression. GSK Prepared, published and distributed misleading journal articles that “Misreported” clinical trials of Paxil . 1 study demonstrated efficacy, while 2 studies did not show efficacy . (How did that happen?)
